THE CHALLENGE

  • Heavy leakages in the old canals
  • Farmers unable to fully utilize their cultivable land due to the absence of proper irrigation facilities

THE SOLUTION

  • NABARD provided a loan to the State Government for renovation/ reconstruction of Thwai-U-Riang Dolloi
  • A major chunk of the canal re-designed with new conveyance capacity
  • Distribution lines revived in the command area

THE IMPACT

  • The initiative has impacted 180 ha of land positively
  • Adequate water supply has brought 90 percent of the land under cultivation in the Kharif season
  • Kharif paddy production, on an average, rose from 1.30MT/ha to 2.30MT/ha
  • Growth in number of farmers taking up vegetable production
