The Challenge:

  • Absence of a proper system to address the need for producing quality dairy animals
  • Huge expenditure incurred in travel to veterinary centres in far-off locations

The Solution:

  • NABARD financed the establishment of K K Koppa Veterinary Hospital in Belgaum under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF)

The Impact:

  • Radical change in the animal husbandry scenario in the area
  • Artificial insemination came as a boon for poor farmers looking for quality animals
  • Substantial control of contagious diseases
  • Almost 50 per cent increase in milk procurement
