THE CHALLENGE

• Damaged anicuts which hindered water supply from the main river to the ayacuts
• Poor flow of water at the tail end during harvest time
• Rebuilding critical infrastructure and helping farmers

THE SOLUTION

• NABARD provided RIDF loan to the Tamil Nadu Government to repair damages
• Regular monitoring undertaken to ensure that work adhered strictly to technical guidelines

THE IMPACT

• Farmers receive more water and for greater number of days
• Substantial increase in water flow across the channel up to the tail end
• Cultivation of a second crop due to ready availability of water from wells replenished by the anicuts
