• Katihar district was prone to frequent floods, causing huge loss of life and property
• Dismal state of the road along River Kosi
• Improvement of both, road and river embankment

THE SOLUTION

• NABARD sanctioned a loan under RIDF for raising and strengthening the Katihar Town Protection Embankment
• The project had a component for construction of a bituminous road as well

THE IMPACT

• 620 hectares of agricultural land saved from floods
• Around 7 lakh people in Katihar town and adjoining villages saved from devastation caused by annual floods
• Overall economic prosperity due to smooth movement of goods and services
