The 100 metre section of the ‘PeriaOdai’ and the south main canal bank which had been breached during the 1972 floods was deeply scoured, affecting the 688.26 hectare Ayacut/Command area
Farmers in the Command area of the south main canal were not receiving sufficient water
THE SOLUTION
NABARD extended financial assistance under RIDF for construction of a 31.80 metre long dam with a narrow crested weir, abutment wing and return walls
THE IMPACT
Restoration of river bed to its original level
Replenishment of downstream wells
Availability of water for longer periods
Tangible effect on agricultural productivity
