THE SOLUTION

  • Goat farming encouraged by NABARD as an economic activity
  • By investing Rs 1,000 a tribal woman received three goats, two tripods and three vessels. They were required to return any of the three goats within one to three years of initiation
  • Free training, vaccination and first aid for ill goats provided at a nominal charge
  • Male buck provided for mating

THE IMPACT

  • Tribal women goat use offsprings as ATMs, by selling them at handsome rates of Rs 9,000 to Rs 10,000 each
  • Dairy products and fertilisers for selfconsumption or sale
  • Goats a source of income and used for weddings, medical expenses and other purposes
