Development of PACS as a financial inclusion services provider

Beneficiaries:

Villagers, especially rural women, in Malappuram district, Kerala

The Challenge:

• Hastening the pace of financial inclusion by introducing multifarious banking services in the region

The Solution:

• NABARD assisted in setting up the Green Earth Farmers Club
• Innovative services offered by the PACS were popularised by the Green Earth Farmers Club
• The PACS implemented ICTbased electronic transactions and introduced micro ATMs and ATM cards

The Impact:

• Spread in the network of financial inclusion
• Substantial increase in PACS’ business
• Banking services at the doorsteps of the poor and aged
• Volunteers earn incomes ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 30,000 per month
