Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Hon’ble Minister of Finance, Assam and Shri Samir Sinha, IAS Principal Secretary Finance, Assam visited NABARD Head Office, Mumbai on 4th June 2018. They held wide ranging discussions with Dr. Harsh Kumar Bhanwala, Chairman, Shri H R Dave, Deputy Managing Director and senior executives of NABARD.

 

NABARD made a presentation on various initiatives being done by it in Assam through credit and other developmental activities. NABARD also explained about the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) and the allocation done for the current year. An amount of Rs.1245 crore has been allocated for Assam under RIDF during the year. The other possible areas of funding including NABARD Infrastructure Development Fund (NIDA), Long term Irrigation Fund, Warehouse Infrastructure Fund, Credit Facility to Federation and Green Climate Fund were also discussed.

 

Dr. Sarma thanked NABARD for its proactive role and requested larger funding support from RIDF and NIDA to meet the infrastructure requirements of the State at an expedite manner. NABARD Chairman assured support to scale up its operations in infrastructure development in North Eastern Region including considering higher allocation. It was also decided to hold a seminar in September 2018 involving Chief Ministers, Finance Ministers and the Government officials of North Eastern Regions regarding infrastructure funding available from NABARD.
