Jalna Sweet Orange

A traditional variety of sweet orange in Jalna district, Jalna sweet orange is recognised for its higher peel (rind) thickness. The sweetness in the fruit is due to high TSS content. It is highly nutritious and packed with Vitamin C.

The produce

In Maharashtra, Jalna district produces the most sweet oranges, accounting for almost 85% of the total area under cultivation. Typically, planting takes place in the monsoon season. Sweet oranges need nine to twelve months to fully ripen, at which point they are collected based on their appropriate size, colour, and sugar to acid ratio.

GI tag

This sweet fruit was awarded with GI tag with support from NABARD in 2016.
