GUNTUR: A senior agriculture scientist from the state, Chintala Govinda Rajulu has been named as next chairman of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).
Govinda Rajulu is presently serving as deputy managing director of the Nabard based at Mumbai. Banks Board Bureau (BBB) headed by retired IAS officer BP Sharma with financial services secretary Rajiv Kumar, public enterprises secretary Shailesh, RBI deputy governor NS Viswanathan has recommended Govinda Rajulu’s name for the prestigious post of Nabard chairman to the Centre.
A formal notification about the appointment will be issued shortly. Native of Brahmana Koduru village of Ponnur constituency in Guntur district, Govinda Rajulu has emerged victorious in the stiff competition for the top post of chairman in the interviews held in Mumbai on Wednesday. Banks Board Bureau has noted that it picked up Govinda Rajulu for chairman’s post keeping in view of his experience and service in the organisation.
Govinda Rajulu did his schooling from Sri Patibandla Sitaramaiah High School (SPSH) in Guntur city and went on to pursue graduation in agriculture sciences from Bapatla Agriculture College in 1978. He completed the degree in 1982 and did his post graduation in seed science and technology from Indian Agriculture Research Institute (IARI) in 1986.
He joined Nabard as grade-B officer in 1985 and held several positions across the country before becoming deputy MD in 2019.
“Govinda Rajulu’s appointment is yet another big achievement of our college. This has further sweetened our college platinum jubilee celebrations,” said senior IRS officer and Hyderabad principal GST Commissioner, D Purushottam. He said that Bapatla agriculture college produced many all-india service officers, bankers and agriculture scientists.
Govinda Rajulu’s appointment is likely to benefit the state of Andhra Pradesh as he could push at least a few pending projects and loan requests from the state. In fact, Centre had tied-up funding of Polavaram project with NABARD.
Even after getting cleared from various ministries, it might take several months to get the funds from the banker. In such situation, intervention at the highest level would help clear the funds for the prestigious project.
