Tribal Development project to support farmers in Phek
Kohima,: The Tribal Development project on ‘Integrated livelihood development of 200 small and marginal farmer households in Porba, Sakraba, Gidemi and Pholami villages of Phek district’ sponsored by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) was inaugurated at the district level under the Tribal Development Fund on September 15 at Pfutsero. Tiakala Ao, General Manager, NABARD Regional Office Dimapur was the inaugural guest.
The project is to be implemented by the Chakhesang Women Welfare Society and it is an establishment of “WADI” (Orchard) to address low-income issue of the resource poor farmers and it is agriculture-based farming system where fruit plants will be planted and other livelihood activities for socio-economic development of the target family. The project envisaged developing one acre of land for each tribal families with major crops of kiwi and persimmon.
It aims to bring in better economic returns through community led and managed comprehensive livelihood intervention paving ways for sustainable production and marketing practices. The project is for 6 years, stated a press release received here.
