NAGAON: As part of celebration of International Year of Millets, with a view to mark National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, Assam regional office, Guwahati has planned to undertake various activities across the State to increase coverage of areas under millets cultivation including its different varieties, its value addition and processing as well as its proper marketing and promotion at maximum districts in the State. Keeping ahead this agenda, NABARD, Regional Office, Guwahati launched the model millets project at Kaki - Beltola area covering over 150 bighas of land under Lumding block in Hojai district on Saturday last.
Over 50 farmers from Kaki and Beltola areas have been selected for the mega demonstrative farming of millets by NABARD as well as the district agriculture department.
In presence of Dr Arunima Deb Chaudhary, state consultant of National Food Security Mission, senior agriculture official Pankaj Barman, local Anchalik Panchayat president Pilinga Bordoloi and other members of implementing agency of the project - Gramya Unnayan Sangstha, Rajendra Perna, DDM, NABARD ceremonially inaugurated the project at a brief function held at Beltola bazar hall on Saturday last.
