• Soil erosion and formation of gullies
• Scarcity of water for animals during summer
• Water table depletion and low productivity of paddy crop

THE SOLUTION

• NABARD extended financial assistance under RIDF for construction of an earthen check dam in Chakai block of Jamui district for water storage and supply of irrigation water

THE IMPACT

• Gully stabilisation and erosion control
• Assured irrigation for about 4.5 hectares of land, even during summer
• Land now a multicrop area that grows summer vegetables
• Additional income through vegetable cultivation and fish farming
