• Ensuring eco-friendly collection, segregation and utilisation of waste generated at the Calicut International Airport

THE SOLUTION

• Niravu Farmers Club set up with NABARD’s assistance took up waste management of the airport
• Niravu Awareness Programme was launched to create interest among the people
• Dedicated capacitybuilding programmes on scientific zero waste management, zero pesticides, organic farming and energy conservation were conducted

THE IMPACT

• Organic waste converted into manure using ring compost
• Plastic waste segregated and sold periodically to recycling units
• Establishment of a bio-gas unit
• The club earns approximately ? 50,000 each month from these activities
