THE SOLUTION

  • NABARD sanctioned a Wadi (orchard) programme to support inter-cropping of oranges with pineapples, sugarcane and bananas
  • Capacity-building through SHGs was initiated to build employment opportunities for women
  • Animal husbandry was promoted as a viable support for those who did not own sizeable plots of land

THE IMPACT

  • Farmers began to reap benefits within a short span of just 3 years
  • Neighbouring villages motivated to scale up their horticulture farming
  • Farmers moving towards Producer Organization route
  • Improvement in the social and economic well-being of tribals
