Initiative:

Innovative income generation activity for the unemployed

Beneficiaries:

Residents of Darkot village, Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand

The Challenge:

  • Poor quality wool due to unscientific rearing of Angora rabbits
  • Post-processing unit for Angora wool located far from the village

The Solution:

  • An innovative skill development project was sanctioned to the Johar Mahila Janjatti Utthan Samiti for scientific rabbit farming
  • Training was provided to 5 villagers on Angora rearing; they later trained other villagers
  • 30 German Angora rabbits and a Common Facility Centre was provided to the villagers

The Impact:

  • Better quality and quantity of wool
  • Additional source of income for women
  • Development of a viable and replicable livelihood activity
