Initiative:

Introduction of farm technology through farmers’ collectives

Beneficiaries:

Farmers of Jhunjhunu district, Rajasthan

The Challenge:

  • Poverty and illiteracy in a resource-poor region
  • Ignorance about farm technology and government schemes land and high levels of migration
  • Inadequate formal banking services

The Solution:

  • NABARD sanctioned a project to Sewajyoti for formation of Farmers Clubs
  • Clubs were involved in disseminating agro-technology
  • Capacity building measures were taken to popularise dairy farming as an additional livelihood option

The Impact:

  • Availability of shortterm crop loans and dairy loans
  • Health camps for immunisation of cattle
  • Good quality seeds for farmers
  • A Farm Input Supply Centre owned by farmers
  • Increased awareness about social ills such as dowry, female foeticide, child marriage and female illiteracy
