JAMMU & KASHMIR

THE INITIATIVE

  • Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) as a source for scientific storage facility

THE BENEFICIARIES

  • About 700farmers from Jammu, Samba and Katra districts, Jammu & Kashmir

THE CHALLENGE

  • The warehouse facility with PACS was rudimentary and did not meet Warehousing Development & Regulatory Authority(WDRA) standards

THE SOLUTION

  • An MoU was signed by NABARD with PACS and ORIGO India, a post-harvest management services company
  • NABARD enabled warehousing and negotiable warehouse receipt finance facilities for farmers
  • Suitable warehouses were identified and upgraded to WDRA standards

THE IMPACT

  • An end to distress sales
  • Farmers free from the clutches of rice millers and aggregators
  • Discovery of better crop prices
  • WDRA standard warehouses with best in class facilities
