  • Seepage of moisture and dirt in wooden boxes used for beekeeping, leading to poor quality honey
  • Finding alternate beekeeping solutions

THE SOLUTION

  • Concrete or stone hives for underground beekeeping was introduced by NABARD
  • A honey processing unit with a 50 kg capacity was constructed and 60 traditional beekeepers were trained to operate it

THE IMPACT

  • A 1,000 improved underground hives constructed by beekeepers
  • Improved collection, storage, bottling and packaging of organic honey
  • Production of 3 tonnes of honey of great market value
  • Annual income of ? 12 lakh generated from honey alone
