The district unit of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) launched ‘Sankalp se Sidhi’ (determination to attainment) – New India (2017-22) by organising a workshop for farmers to double their income by 2022 by adopting latest technologies.
Collector S. Natarajan, who inaugurated the workshop, administered the determination to attainment pledge to farmers and exhorted them to double their income by adopting the Centre’s seven point agenda and resorting to better water management and cultivating high yielding crop varieties.
The ‘Sankalp se Sidhi’ programme was being organised throughout the country, marking the 75th anniversary of Quit India movement and the KVK has organised the workshop as per the direction of Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) to help farmers double their income.
Mr. Natarajan asked the farmers to make use of the latest technologies brought to them by the KVK and Department of Agriculture and resort to scientific practices. He advised the farmers to focus on water management, cultivating high yielding varieties, maintaining soil health, adding value to the products, preserving the products in cold storage facilities and practicing integrated farming to enhance their income.
They should benefit from centre’s schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Pradham Mantri Sanchi Yojana and Soil Health Card Scheme for achieving higher production and income in agriculture, he said.
Joint Director of Agriculture R Harivasan, KVK programme coordinator C Rajamanickam, Personal assistant to collector (agriculture) P Raja, Deputy director, fisheries P Isac Jayakumar, NABARD district manager C Mathiazhagan, lead bank manager S Suresh Babu and A Vijayalingam from KVK were present.
