Shri K. Venkateswara Rao has taken charge as the Managing Director of NABARD Consultancy Services Private Ltd. (NABCONS) on 1st August 2019 on superannuation of Shri Naresh Gupta, the former Managing Director, NABCONS on 31 July 2019.
Prior to his appointment as Chief General Manager National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), he was heading the Farm Sector Policy Department in NABARD, Head Office, Mumbai and was steering designing of policies for Agriculture and Rural Development and Climate Change initiatives of NABARD.
Shri Rao entered the middle management of NABARD in 1985 and had been working in various capacities in the same organization for the last 34 years. He was the Chief General Manager of Department of Supervision, looking after inspection and supervision of Regional Rural Banks (RRBs), District Cooperative Central Banks (DCCBs) and State Cooperative Banks. He headed the Micro Credit Innovations Department which oversees Self-Help Group (SHG)-Bank linkage and other women empowerment programmes. He also headed the Bihar and Tamil Nadu Regional Offices of NABARD.
Shri Rao has professional experience in appraisal of various farm and non-farm sector projects, potential linked credit plans, district credit plans, area development, SHGs, Joint Liability Groups, Micro Finance Institutions, Farmers’ Producer Organization and also supervision of banks, viz., RRBs and Rural Cooperative Banks.
Shri Rao has been in several Board level positions like the Nominee Director of NABARD on Chaitanya Gramin Bank, Andhra Pradesh and Director of NABKISAN Finance Ltd., Chennai; Member Secretary to the Board of Supervision for RRBs and Cooperative Banks.
Shri Rao, is a Post-Graduate from Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi in the year 1985. He has international exposure in the sectors like Micro-finance, Climate change, Cooperatives etc.
